The primary line of the UAE National Railway Network, which starts in Ghuweifat on the Saudi Arabian border, runs through the emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah and takes passengers on a scenic trip across the highlands.
The state rail network’s contractor and operator, Etihad Rail, is working on finishing Fujairah’s lines in the following weeks. According to the authorities, the most recent progress, which includes the final batch of stage two of the mammoth project, takes Etihad Rail one step closer to building the entire network on schedule.
According to engineer Khuloud Al Mazrouei, deputy project manager at Etihad Rail, “this plays a significant role in creating new opportunities in the logistics and transport sector, driving social development, and delivering promising economic advantages in the UAE and the region across a variety of sectors.”
The railways in the two emirates took roughly 3,250 employees 25 months and 13 million hours to complete.
The line in Sharjah is 45 km long and is a component of the project’s ultimate package, which is 145 km long. Only one stretch of the railroad took 11.7 million work hours. The line in Ras Al Khaimah is more than 5.7 km long.
Al Mazrouei stated, “We would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to the local government entities in the emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah for their considerable support in implementing this initiative.
We are glad to see that Etihad Rail is pursuing a major national initiative, particularly true considering our streak of triumphs. The most recent was our connecting the railway freight station in Abu Dhabi’s Industrial City to the main line.
The final stage two package’s line involved the construction of 20 animal crossings and 54 bridges. It comprises nine tunnels through a distance of 6.9 miles over the Al Hajar Mountains. Additionally, it contains the 1.8 km-long, longest heavy freight tunnel in the GCC. Due to the surrounding mountainous terrain, this railway passes one of the most demanding geographic locations.
Residents of Dubai have begun hearing train honks in their suburban communities as Etihad Rail takes shape, bringing back memories, especially in the mornings. A few weeks ago, we achieved a historic pact to establish a rail network that would shorten travel time between the UAE and Oman to as low as 47 minutes.
