A citizen or resident must apply to a licensed driving school in the relevant emirate, take driving lessons, and pass all examinations to get a new driver’s license (if required). The applicant may call a special driving license valid for citizens, GCC nationals, and other nationalities for two years after completing all lessons and passing all exams. Age restrictions & other rules to get a driving license in UAE
Customers, residents, and citizens older than the legal age and in good health are entitled to apply for a new driver’s license and a driving instruction permit. Depending on the vehicle for which you are applying for a license, there may be a minimum age restriction. The required minimum age is as follows:
Motorcycles and special needs vehicles must be 17 years old.
18 years for automobiles and light trucks
20 years for tractors and large vehicles
Buses for 21 years.
The following papers are needed to open a traffic file:
A copy of the visa page and the passport
Original Emirates ID card with a copy
A pair of passport-size images
Report on eye exam
No letter of protest from the sponsor (if required by the related traffic department).
The steps used to learn to drive an automobile are as follows:
Creating a traffic file at a licensed driving facility in the relevant emirate
Taking an eye exam at any location that the traffic department has authorized
completing all driving school requirements
Passing every test that the relevant traffic agency has set
Renewing a driver’s license
The renewal period for a driver’s license is ten years for nationals of the UAE and the GCCC and five years for residents. In the majority of emirates, driving license renewals may be completed online. You must pay all outstanding traffic penalties to renew your driver’s license. Customers who put off renewing their driving license for more than one month will be fined 10 AED each month.
